Poochigian vs. Brown for Attorney General Offers Stark Contrast
The 2006 race for Attorney General between Senator Chuck Poochigian and Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown offers California voters a choice between candidates with vastly different records and views on law enforcement issues. Because of the fact that the winner will be California's "Top Cop," the outcome of this race is crucial to public safety.
Senator Poochigian is campaigning to be Attorney General on two decades of unwavering support for public safety policies to protect California families. Poochigian got his start screening judicial appointments for Governors Deukmejian and Wilson recommending strong, common sense judges favoring strict law enforcement. Chuck is a recognized leader in the Legislature on such issues as defending the death penalty, protecting children from sexual predators, increasing penalties for identity thieves, and incarcerating felons illegally using firearms before they become cop killers.
Jerry Brown's most enduring public safety legacy is his five decades of vocal and emotional opposition to the death penalty, including his claim that it's not okay even to execute guilty people, and his appointment of Rose Bird to the California Supreme Court where she sought to overturn every death penalty conviction. Mayor Brown is running for "Top Cop" on a pledge to do for California crime what he has done for Oakland. Please view Senator Poochigian's web-ad exposing Brown's record on crime in Oakland, which is our state's most violent big city, and you'll agree that this is a truly scary thought! Oakland and California deserve better.
Chuck Poochigian's biggest challenge will be to overcome Jerry Brown's high name identification. Brown's biggest challenge will be to overcome his abysmal public safety record. While Poochigian can raise his name ID, Brown can't change his record. The Los Angeles Times also notes an advantage for Poochigian, "voters often tilt toward Republicans for law-and-order jobs," (June 8, 2006).
There is still a long time until November, and your help in getting out the message of the importance of this race will be crucial to Chuck Poochigian's success. Please visit www.pooch4ag.com today and sign up to be involved in the campaign by receiving e-mail updates, volunteering locally, or making a secure online contribution. Chuck Poochigian is the only candidate in this race with a strong and consistent record on law enforcement, fresh ideas on utilizing the office to fight crime, and a commitment to putting public safety first. Please do all that you can to help Chuck Poochigian become California's chief law enforcement officer.
