As 2006 came to an end, CCR saw the conclusion of yet another record-setting year. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, allow me to name a few: record numbers at the CCR GOTV Weekend in a record number of locations, record-breaking member recruitment, a record number of field reps visiting a record number of schools and a record number of resources for clubs across the state.
But that’s not all…
While UC Berkeley CRs made headlines in the Wall Street Journal for notorious campus activism, CSU Fullerton made waves (and cakes) at its local VOIP center.
UC Irvine led the charge against political correctness and stood up for free speech with their cartoon unveiling.
CCR held a memorable retreat at the Ronald Reagan Presidential library where clubs chairs learned the rules of engagement.
The memories are endless.
So what’s next for College Republicans? With no races to work on, many College Republicans may be wondering how they can stay active in politics and generate enthusiasm for their members. The answer of course is what College Republicans do better than anyone else—ACTIVISM.
The next state and federal elections are 2 years away, true. But Republicans still have a message that voters need to hear. Voters still need to know where the Democrats are wrong, and where Republicans are right whether it be on immigration, defense, spending or values. This New Year will no doubt be a time when College Republicans frame the debate on these issues in a variety of creative ways.
