FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Del Mar, CA- College Republicans successfully blocked a tax-funded appearance of Michael Moore at California State University, San Marcos in San Diego, California.  The Associated Students Incorporated’s (ASI) planned to sponsor with tax dollars and students fees an appearance by Michael Moore less than a month before the election, against the wishes of the University President and College Republicans.  The controversial move made national news.

In response to the opposition of the College Republicans and others, the ASI moved the event off campus and had to locate private funding for the event.  Approximately 300 students and members of the community protested Michael Moore to stand up for academic fairness and support for President Bush.

“We received thousands of honks for Bush and hundreds of obscene gestures,” said Stephen Puetz, Co-Chairman of California College Republicans and organizer of the event. Recent conflict over the Moore event spurred Puetz to launch www.mooreprotest.com, which he used to help organize today’s rally. “Mainstream and conservative taxpaying members of the community cannot remain silent any longer. Today, we made ourselves heard and stopped the abuse of tax dollars going to leftist bias,” said Puetz.

Puetz hopes the event will lead to academic balance at CSUSM. “ASI disregarded the will of President Haynes and a large number of the student body in an attempt to sway the youth vote,” said Puetz. “I hope that after today’s rally ASI will realize that they can no longer trample upon our academic freedom. Over 300 people stood up today and rejected ASI’s leftist dogma.”

The battle to balance leftist bias on college campuses extends beyond San Marcos. Students across the country have protested Michael Moore as he takes his distorted campaign against President Bush to college campuses.

“We are not going to stop here at San Marcos, or at any other campus, until our message is given the same treatment as Michael Moore’s and the like in left leaning academia,” said CCR State Chairman Michael P. Davidson.  “Furthermore, President Bush is the right leader for the next generation, our generation, so we will not let his good name and positive record tarnish from Moore’s lies and distortions.”
