MTV/Rock the Vote Gets Punk'd! PDF Print E-mail

Image LOS ANGELES, CA – Some revealing things went on at MTV Networks in Santa Monica when young voters protested MTV/Rock the Vote for using draft scare tactics and lying about their non-partisanship.  Over 70 college kids stood in front of MTV Networks with signs that had catchy phrases, such as "Pimp My Ride, Not My Vote," "You're Hurting the Kids, Judy," "The Kids Will be All Right," "Total Request Lies," and more.

In response, gleeful MTV staffers, replete with MTV badges, ran instinctively from inside MTV Networks to join the three anti-Bush, pro-Kerry protestors across the street to bring them self-made and campaign-made signs -- all while on the clock.  Pictures are available here.  One MTV staffer went so far as to tell a student MTV denouncer that she hopes his "girlfriend gets raped, so she has to get an abortion."

"I was shocked.  I already had a problem with the lies about nonpartisanship and scare tactics, but that fell off the cliff of decency," said Stephen Puetz, a young voter denouncing MTV/Rock the Vote.  "Yet MTV/Rock the Vote still professes to be non partisan."

But this bias predates today.  We looked the other way back in 2000 when MTV/Rock the Vote opted to not host an inaugural party for the newly elected President George W. Bush even though they held two big D.C. bashes in 1992 and 1996 for President Bill Clinton.

Rock the Vote's Jehmu Greene, whose bio linked here is a decorated veteran of Democratic Party activism.  Another link shows that she was on the "Committees Committee" for the DNC convention in Boston with other famed Democratic notables, such as Democratic Congressman Bob Mendendez and Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow.  Ms. Green's activism appears to have extended into her Rock the Vote rein, which is where we and the public draw the line and demand honesty.  All of this is most salient because MTV/Rock the Vote and John Kerry incited the draft scare at virtually the same time.  The pattern here is undeniable.

"Is this in the spirit of benevolent and non partisan young voter outreach?" asked CCR State Chairman Michael P. Davidson  "We exposed that MTV is as rotten as people say it is.  There is a cancer in MTV: a partisan cancer that runs throughout the organization.  If you're going to be a partisan, then say you’re a partisan.  Don't lie to young people, so you can scare them to the polls for John Kerry."

"But this doesn't only come at the youth's expense.  Viacom shareholders beware: this company is using your money to push a radical agenda on America's youth.  We hope to continue a permanent campaign against MTV/Rock the Vote.  We hope to gain many allies, including truly non partisan ones who once remembered MTV as a source of entertainment for Democratic and Republican and Libertarian and Green children alike."
